Mannings Hotel Training and Consultancy

Mannings Hotel is a listed Georgian Townhouse slap bang in the centre of the historic town of Truro in Cornwall.
After spending several weeks under wraps, the owners of the ever-popular Mannings Bar & Restaurant on Lemon Street in Truro are ready to throw open their doors and reveal a cosmopolitan new look, set to put the establishment at the epicenter of the Truro style stage. Following a major transformation, thanks to extensive internal works, Mannings now feels twice the size of its previous incarnation and offers a beautifully elegant and relaxed location for those looking for outstanding food and inspirational drinks at any time of the day or evening.

Over the years, both Mannings hotel and restaurant have gone through a process of stylish and astute development, garnering a loyal clientele and becoming one of Truro’s most popular places to eat, meet and drink. The new refurbishment is the final piece in the jigsaw for the owners; mother and daughter team Lynn and Nicky Manning. The dynamic duo have spent a number of years of travelling, researching and garnering ideas and inspiration and their vision for this key part of their business. To achieve their luxurious concept, the Mannings turned to Falmouth based agency Absolute, the creators of the interiors at the St Moritz Hotel near Rock and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall at Watergate Bay. As a result, founder Helen Blake and her team have taken inspiration from classic Hollywood movies to create an open, flowing space, bedecked in cool classic colours and timeless furniture, completely recreating Mannings and ensuring it is the ultimate destination for flowing conversation and memorable occasions in Truro.

The building is Grade II listed so the restaurant and bar area have been opened up sympathetically to create a more accessible space and the surroundings retain an intimate and welcoming feel through the use of lighting, tactile materials and fabrics and a muted colour palette of blues, silver and gold. Key to the new look is a sense of timeless and effortless elegance and a small champagne room, sponsored by Bollinger, mixes seamlessly with the replanned bar and restaurant areas.
The build team, which included Luscombe Construction, Ace Flooring & Carpets Cornish Cooling and Heating Services, Gardner Electrical, Reward Consultancy, Shaker BarConsultancy®, RMW Decorators, WT Flockhart Plumbing and South West Shopfitters, has worked relentlessly to ensure the entire transformation has taken just six weeks.

Great service underpins everything at Mannings and customer loyalty has always at the very top of the agenda for Lynn, Nicky and the team. In an unprecedented move, throughout the six week refurbishment, all of the staff members were kept on – a testament to Lynn and Nicky’s commitment to their team and its development. This means that regular customers will be greeted by the same friendly faces and receive the same high standard of service in the beautiful new surroundings. Mannings regulars will also be happy to hear that the ever-popular menu will stay true to its classic best of British style fare, with everything from prime rib steaks butchered on the premises to fresh local fish, from aromatic sizzling platters to lighter snacks and as always the menu will change to reflect the best of what’s seasonal and local. Keeping with the cosmopolitan feel, the new look Mannings will be open from early in the morning for breakfast and brunch and then will be serving food all afternoon and evening long, ensuring guests can eat whenever their stomach tells them its time.

However in another innovative development move, Mannings is set to become the ultimate Cornish destination for those who appreciate the finest of cocktails. Lynn and Nicky have been working with internationally renowned bar consultants Shaker BarConsultancy® whom are responsible for the bar design and training program and have created a concise, classic, drinks offering that befits the luxurious new surroundings. Founder Adam Freeth and his team has been delivering in-depth training for the Mannings bar and restaurant staff including; product knowledge, customer service, classic and contemporary cocktails. And the opening also sees the launch of a range of signature cocktails including; SpringBerry Martini, Earl Grey Martini and the PP Margarita. Freeth commented “Shaker have taken a classic approach to the seasonal drinks menu introducing fresh spring and summer ingredients along with some staple classics…its all about quality here…not quantity. We are making our own homemade fiery ginger beer and lemonades, all our juices are freshly squeezed, and we are making our own range of Mannings Bitters with our very own Alembic still.”

Amit Sood, Head of Training for Shaker BarConsultancy® said “Truro is the London of Cornwall and is a vibrant and exciting city, we intend to bring a little of the capital and the soul of this region to the drinks that are created here. One of the signature drinks will be the Mannings Bloody Mary Buffet which will take breakfast and lunch guests through a myriad of flavours to personalize their own Mary”

As ever with Mannings, a range of crisp international beers and an extensive and varied selection of wines, from different countries and regions around the world, will always be on offer.

Nicky Manning says, “We are super delighted with the transformation of the bar and restaurant and as I’m sure everyone will agree, it is hard to believe this that is the same space that we had before. The work has opened up the entire area and it feels twice the size. All our team is completely in love with it and very excited about opening the doors to all of our loyal and new customers alike. For some time now, Truro has been in need of a seriously chic, all day long destination, and now we have it we’re looking forward to seeing everyone enjoying it and making the most of the elegant new surroundings.”

Nicky continues, “We must however thank our staff and the building and design team behind our transformation. Their loyalty, relentless hard work and dedication has meant that the whole job has been completed in an extremely short timescale and it all looks amazing!”
