Life after ALevels the Shaker way!

Not going to Uni? Don't panic whether you're going to uni, traveling or not sure - there's a Shaker BarSchool Graduate who's been there.
As this is my first blog entry I should introduce myself. For those of you who don't me I'm Simon, Training Coordinator for Shaker BarSchools. I try and meet all of the students that shake-it at the BarSchool, it's a buzz to be part of the journey. From booking, through to the BIG Day - but it never ends there, Shaker Graduates unrivalled passion, enthusiasm and skill mean they're in some of the top bars, restaurants and clubs abroad and in the UK; whether it be a Gap Year or a career in mixology many go onto be World-class'.
This encourages me to get more people onto our courses as I know there are budding flairers and mixologists with untapped talent out there who haven't got involved yet! The International Bartenders Course (IBC) is our flagship course designed for those who have either no bartending experience or already have the basics down. The IBC brings to life your role as a professional cocktail bartender from customer service skills all the way through to the practical hands on shaking, stirring, straining and of course sampling of cocktails. People who come to Shaker are certainly those looking to break into the hospitality industry for one reason or another. Some are looking to train with the best bartenders and mixologists so they can travel the world to all sorts of exotic and exciting places on their gap year; experiencing, flaring and shaking-their stuff whilst earning money as they do it.

The start of 2010 saw the WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) Foundation level 1 in Spirits introduced to the International Bartenders Course (IBC) which has been a hit with the students that have gone through it. They've experienced first-hand the value of this qualification, regarded highly by potential employers, as a great standard of spirit knowledge.
