UKBG Bartender of the Year Competiton 2012.
And the winner is…
On the 14th May Shaker Bar School hosted this year’s UK UKGB Young Bartender of the year competition at the London bar school Shaker and Company.
With 10 of the UK’s finest bartender’s the competition was fierce. Each contestant was asked to produce two Bénédictine cocktails one classic from a list of five and design another.
The judging panel was made up of current UKBG president Daniel Brian Page; UKBG’s technical expert, and head of training Amit Sood. UKBG vice president Luca Cordigliera and London vice chairman Mike Sweetman were responsible for marking the written part of the competition.
All contestants performed exceptionally but the title was award to Nathan Merrimen, bartender at The American Bar at the Savoy. Runner’s up included Simone Caporale from The Artesian bar at The Langham Hotel and Shaker and Company’s very own Elliot Ball.
Shaker Bar School would like to congratulate all contestants for taking part and thank UKBG and First Drinks for involving us in this fantastic event.
And here’s the winning recipe!
Merrimen’s winning freestyle cocktail; Counterfeit Hall
40ml Noilly Prat Extra Dry Vermouth
20ml D.O.M Benedictine
7.5ml Yellow Chartreuse
2 dashes Bitter Truth Celery Bitters
1 Dash Absinthe
Stir and strain ingredients into a small goblet glass and garnish with a lemon twist.

We are proud to annouce The Young Bartender of the year 2012 in partnership with First Drinks Brands Ltd on Monday 14th May at Shaker&Company.
As usual the competitors will have to be under 26 years old (by April 2013) to be able to enter.
The competiton is in two folds.
1. You will take a100 questions test on general product knowledge, Bénédictine and general knowledge.
2. A cocktail competition judged on salesmanship, showmanship and of course the overall cocktail.
